CPM sees triangular fight in AP 2019 election

Tirupati: CPM state secretary P Madhu said with the Left parties and Jana Sena Party (JSP) joining hands, the state is going to witness a triangle contest in the 2019 election.

Unlike the 2014 election, this time the election will be a litmus test to both the ruling TDP and the opposition YSR Congress Party as it will not be a straight fight, Madhu said adding that the two parties’ expectations and calculations are sure to be upset with the presence of formidable Jana Sena and Left alliance in the election.

“The alliance will put an end to the two parties which have their say all these years and were only taking care of their political interests than the people of the state,’’ he said.

The CPM leader said that the party is gearing up for launching a mass movement in Chittoor district with the support of like-minded parties to press the government to look in to the burning issues plaguing the people in the district.

The dairy and mango farmers were hard hit with no remunerative price for their produce while the SC ST Community members enjoying the forest lands were facing persecution and oppression from authorities keen on evicting them from the lands that were long back allotted to them.

The 30 private dairies formed into a cartel paying only RS 21-23 per litre as against the fair price of Rs 35 per litre milk hitting about three lakh farmers, mostly small and marginal while the pulp industries also formed into a syndicate and lowered the price for the pulp variety mango, which accounts for 80 per cent of the district mango production, to just Rs 5 per kg as against the remunerative price of Rs 12 affecting about 60,000 mango farmers in the district, he said and demanded that the government immediately look into the issues.

Madhu said that a meeting will be held soon to chalk out the course for building a strong public movement to force the government to solve all these problems for the benefit of the district dairy and mango farmers and also SCs, STs enjoying about 2500 acres of forest land.

The party also will convene a meeting of like-minded parties for organising statewide bandh in support of Kadapa steel plant to build pressure on the government to agree for the plant for the development of backward Rayalaseema, he said. CPM district secretary A Pullaiah and others were present.
