Call to focus on translational research
Tirupati: Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) Vice-Chancellor Prof V Durga Bhavani said that interpersonal relations between faculty and students would play a key role in enhancing the viability of translational research.
Earlier, she inaugurated a two-day national seminar in ‘recent trends in translational research’ at varsity senate hall on Thursday. Addressing the delegates, the V-C shared her views on the theme of the conference and emphasised on the need of translational research.
Prof C Mallikarjuna Rao, Principal, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has delivered the keynote address and deliberated about trends in translational research and touched up on recent medication in treating Tuberculosis disease.
The inaugural session was followed by a plenary lecture by Prof Sridhara Ranghanath Pai, Professor and head, department of Pharmacology, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences on computer-aided drug discovery.
He highlighted the role of genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics in drug discovery and also added the additional information on the database sources available for drug discovery. It was followed by a talk given by prof N Gopalan Kutty, retired professor from Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
He delivered a lecture on the insulin resistance and developing new targets to combat the same. SPMVV Registrar Prof DM Mamatha during her speech stated that Indian journals must be popularised by publishing more reproducible peer reviewed research. Prof R Nagaraju, Prof A Sridevi and Dr D Sujatha were present. The proceedings of the session were presided by Prof KVSRG Prasad.
