Dengue sends chills down the spine of Vizagites

Visakhapatnam: Dengue and other seasonal fevers are on the rise in district. During the blood tests conducted recently in King George Hospital (KGH) for 720 personnel, the authorities confirmed 220 persons suffering from dengue. The patients are undergoing treatment in KGH and also at various private hospitals in the city.

The dengue and malaria fever cases have been on the rise in the Agency areas.In Araku and Paderu mandals, as many as 17 dengue fever patients were identified in the past 48 hours. Apart from malaria, there is spurt in cases of viral fever in various parts of the district. Special medical teams have been deployed in the Agency areas to identify the reasons behind the increasing dengue cases.

Meanwhile, Collector Pravin Kumar, who visited the KGH, interacted with doctors and patients. The Collector inquired about the treatment and medicines available to the patients.

While reviewing the deadly fevers in the district, the Collector directed the Additional DMHO Dr Devi to list out the dengue patients in the government and private hospitals. He wanted the list to be submitted immediately. The details of the patients with complete address and the conditions of the surrounding areas must be included in the list, the Collector added. 

The district collector directed the officials to convene a meeting to review the dengue fever patients’ health condition in the private hospitals also.
The Collector also visited the ICU where the dengue patients are undergoing treatment. Due to the high temperatures, the patients are suffering with the low platelets count, the doctors informed the Collector.

Superintendent of KGH Dr Arjuna and other doctors explained about the treatment to the dengue patients in the hospital. Meanwhile, CPM, Visakha District Committee demanded to declar health emergency in the Agency areas. Already, one woman died after she contracted dengue fever in Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s adopted village Pedalabudu in Araku Valley mandal. 

The state government grandly announced that 24X7 medical aid would be brought to the tribals in the entire agency, but the tribals are dying with deadly fevers, K Lokanatham, CPM district secretary lamented.
