85 per cent voting registered in AP Bar Council polls
Vijayawada: More than 85 per cent of votes were polled in the election to the AP Bar Council throughout Andhra Pradesh on Friday. In Vijayawada, more than 1,800 advocates out of 2,173 registered voters exercised their franchise to elect 25 members to the council out of 107 contestants. From Bezwada Bar Association alone, 12 advocates are contesting. Women advocates came out in large numbers and exercised their right to vote.
A number of advocates are seen still canvassing for their senior advocates though the polling was going on. In Visakhapatnam, out of 2,700 advocate-voters, 2,036 exercised their franchise on Friday. As many as 27 candidates are contesting the election.
In Prakasam district, there are 551 registered voters and 473 of them exercised their franchise to elect members for the AP Bar Council. Three advocates contested from Prakasam district for the member posts.
Jada Vijay Kumar from Ongole Bar Association, Jhansi Rani from Markapuram Bar Association and Govinda Rajulu from Chirala Bar Association are in the fray. In Guntur, out of the 1,655registered voters, 1,415 advocates exercised their franchise. In effect in Guntur also 85 per cent of votes were polled.
