‘28 hillocks identified for improving green cover’

Tirupati: District Collector PS Pradyumna on Saturday launched distribution of plants under ‘Vanam Manam’ afforestation programme at Sri Varasiddi Vinayaka Swamy temple in Kanipakam.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that this year 1.573 crore seedlings have been raised and ready for distribution. In addition to the seedlings, 50 lakh seed balls have also would be prepared for distribution.

During this year, 28 hillocks have been identified for improvement of greenery over an extent of 1,190 hectares in barren hills all over the district through school children of 25 schools while under Vriksha Prasadam programme so far 2.15 lakh seedlings have already distributed to the public, he said. 

Divisional Forest Officer (Social Forestry) Srinivasulu said that the seed balls have to be supplied to those come forward for seed dibbling in barren hills. 

On the occasion, 40,000 plants of various species have been distributed to devotees, public and school children in Kanipakam. 

A demonstration on preparation methods of seed balls to school students was held.
