Chittoor: Parents should motivate their children into playing sports, said Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chairperson Girvani while addressing a meeting at PCR Government Junior College here on Saturday, on the occasion of the Olympic Day Run.
Earlier, she flagged off a run by lighting the Olympic lamp at Mesanical Grounds. The ZP chief and Mayor K Hemalatha have participated in the run which concluded at PCR Government High School Grounds.
Thousands of students from various educational institutions have participated in the Olympic Run with enthusiasm. On the occasion, Girvani has recalled the great contribution of several players from the state to sports by winning international competitions.
Even, the teachers in schools should encourage students to participate in sports and games, she said. The ZP chief directed the District Sports Authority to organise sports competitions frequently in rural areas.
She mentioned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to sports development in the state. Hemalatha has expressed anguish as women are not getting encouragement in sports even though the government is allocating more funds for sports and games.
