‘Society should take care of kids’

Visakhapatnam: Training programme for police officers of the city, juvenile and child welfare officers and members of special juvenile police unit on the juvenile justice care and Protection of Children Act of 2016 was held on the district court premises on Saturday. The programme was conducted on the directive of Principal District Judge BS Bhanumathi. 

After inaugurating the programme, Justice BS Bhanumathi said that society must take care of the children and strive towards securing a better future for them. Children of today is tomorrow's responsible citizens, she added.

Secretary of District Legal Services Authority S Damodar presided over the programme. As many as 50 police officers from the city, officials from women and child development, child protection officers were present.

Senior advocate and President of Forum of Legal Professionals Kuppili Muralidhar speaking as resource person of District Legal Service Authority spoke on the United Nations convention on rights of the child. 

Muralidhar said that India is signatory to the convention on the rights of the children and has to follow UN conventions. The best interest of children and welfare of the child is the paramount consideration of any court while deciding the matter, he added.

Second additional chief metropolitan magistrate Shammi Parvana Sultana Begum, Associate Professor Andhra University law college Dr LVK Prasad, DLSA members R Srinivas Rao, Abdul Raqueeb, LV Ramana and Bagadi Tulasi Das participated in the meeting.  

Later, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority S Damodar Rao presented participant certificates to all the participant police officers.
