Basavatarakam cancer clinic in Amaravati
Vijayawada: A clinic, which also serves as information centre of Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI), Hyderabad, was inaugurated at Governorpet here on Sunday by legislator N Balakrishna, who is also chairman and managing trustee of Nandamuri Basvatarakam Rama Rao Memorial Cancer Foundation (NBTRCF).
This will be temporary premises as the administration is planning to develop a full-fledged cancer hospital in Amaravati. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has allocated 15 acres land for the BIACH&RI and efforts are on for construction of 1,000 bed hospital in one-and-a-half year’s time. The first phase works will begin next month.
After inaugurating the facility, Balakrishna said that BIACH&RI was the dream of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N T Rama Rao which came true two decades back in Hyderabad.
He said that NTR had desired that the future generation should not suffer from lack of good treatment for cancer. “The efforts of the doctors, the BIACH&RI had developed into one of the best cancer hospitals in the country with latest facilities,” he said.
He said that the hospital which began a small facility has grown into a top-notch research institute over the years. He thanked all the donors for extending their support for the establishment of the hospital. He thanked the Telangana government for extending help to the hospital and appealed for donations for construction of cancer hospital in Amaravati.
He said that cancer awareness programmes should be organised to educate the people. Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, who is also Member, Board of Trustees of (NBTRCF), said that the hospital in Hyderabad was the biggest cancer facility across the country. He said that it was giving the world’s best cancer treatment besides operation, radiation, bone marrow transplantation and others.
