GITAM organises orientation camp for engineering students

Visakhapatnam: GITAM Institute of Technology organised a one-day orientation programme for first year engineering students here on Monday with an objective to familiarise the engineering courses.

Participating as chief guest in the programme, Dean, Academic Affairs, Indian Institute of Technology, Tirupati Prof K Krishnaiah said that all branches in engineering are equally good and it is the student who has opted the branch makes the difference.

To design a technological system, engineers must attend to workshops and seminars, he said and advised the students to develop logical thinking and understanding the subject through questioning.

While creating interest among new students, he mentioned that engineering began during 6000 -3000 B.C by discovering methods of producing fire, irrigation systems to promote crop growth, animal, water and wind-driven machines, the wheel and axle, plow and yoke, Krishnaiah explained.

He said that engineering is the profession in which mathematics and science gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to economically use the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of society.

He hinted that cognitive domain includes create, evaluate analyse, apply, understand and remember which leads to thinking and problem solving.
GITAM Institute of Technology Principal Prof K Laksmi Prasad presided over the programme.
