Centre urged to review GST impact on people
Visakhapatnam: Minister for Finance Yanamala Ramakrushnudu stated that both the Central and State governments’ officials should work with coordination and should not burden the common man in the name of taxes.
The Minister for Finance was present at the celebrations to mark the completion of one year of GST here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Yanamala Ramakrushnudu said that it is high time to review the impact of GST on the people.
All the state governments in the country supported the Centre’s GST in the name of one nation, one market and one tax. However, the industries and traders are now opposing the GST and asking exemptions in the GST, he added.
The state government also welcomed the GST, but seriously trying for exemption to the essential commodities from the GST. He said that with the help of GST, the country would be benefited. However, it is the high time to discuss on the five slabs in the GST, the Finance Minister opined.
Speaking about the demand from the people that petroleum products should also bring under the ambit of GST, the minister said it is not correct to bring those products under GST. The state government written a letter to the Centre not to list the petroleum products in the GST category.
Visakhapatnam MP K Haribabu said after the implementation of the GST, the government is receiving over Rs 1 lakh crore revenue every month. The Central government is planning to reduce the taxes on some goods by removing restrictions to make easy to file the returns, the MP said.
