DGP bats for friendly policing
Tirupati: Newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) RP Thakur vowed to implement friendly policing in the state and warned of stern action if police personnel show negligence in discharging duties.
He has assured of providing tight security cover for the Brahmotsavams in Tirumala to be held in the month of September. He held a high-level review meeting with police officials at Police Guest House here on Tuesday, after offering prayers to Lord Venkateswara along with his family members.
The DGP discussed with top cops about law and order situation in Rayalaseema region and steps to be taken for further strengthening the security for ensuing Brahmotsavams. Speaking to the media after the meeting, the DGP briefed about the security measures to be initiated in Tirumala for the safety of pilgrims.
He mentioned entire Tirupati city including Tirumala would be brought under the surveillance of CCTV cameras and the Police department would extend all support to the TTD for foolproof conduct of Brahmotsavams and regulating traffic in Tirumala by rectifying identified lapses. He said the Police department would find a permanent solution with the cooperation of TTD for traffic woes and parking lots in Tirumala.
“We would appoint an additional staff in Tirupati Urban Police District and appoint a Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CVSO) to Tirumala at the earliest,” the DGP stated. He told media that he came to know about various issues of each district in Rayalaseema after interacting with DSPs and said priority would be given to welfare of police personnel.
In the review meeting, Anantapur and Kurnool Range DIGs J Prabhakar Rao and G Srinivas, Chittoor SP SV Rajashekara Babu, Tirupati Urban SP Abhishek Mohanty, Tirumala SP Murali Krishna and DSPs were present.
