Mayor refutes Jagan’s allegations

Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sridhar said that development works worth Rs 2,400 crore were undertaken by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation from 2014 onwards and this year alone Rs 350 crore worth development works were taken up in the city.

The Mayor expressed displeasure against opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy for his baseless allegations on the development activities in the city.

Addressing the media at his chambers here on Tuesday, the Mayor said that the corporation has sanctioned development works less than Rs 25 lakh to all the divisions irrespective of party affiliations. 

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation was ranked fourth Cleanest City in Swachh Survekshan-2018 of the Union government and received the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he reminded.

He said that Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao complimented the development of Vijayawada city. The Mayor said that the YSRCP corporators should follow the VMC Council rules and regulations in the council meetings while discussing the issues of Vijayawada city and ongoing development works, he suggested.

He said that the construction of 5,402 houses was completed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in Vijayawada and also initiated the JNNURM houses registration process in the city. He said that storm water drainage works are going on at a brisk pace.
