HRD Minister pulls up authorities
Visakhapatnam: The Andhra University authorities embarked on a damage control exercise after Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao pulled up them for unhygienic conditions on the campus. Immediately, the university authorities deployed men and machinery for cleaning the campus on Wednesday.
During his surprise check on July 2, the HRD Minister shocked after observing empty alcohol bottles on the hostel premises in the campus. He also observed garbage at various locations on the precincts of the campus. The minister pointed out that the authorities are not cleaning the campus even during the summer holidays and warned the officials, he would not spare anyone, if he witnesses garbage yet again on the campus. He directed the officials to take landscaping and beautification works.
As per the minister’s directive, the university management endorsed the works to the engineering department and told them to start the works immediately. On Wednesday, the engineering officials deployed men and machinery to clean the campus.
Register of Andhra University Prof V Umamaheswara Rao inspected the works taken up at Sri Krishnadevaraya Hostel. On the occasion, the registrar directed the engineering officials to ensure clean surroundings in and around campus. He also directed the officials to complete the pending works and take up he plantation and beautification works. Andhra University chief engineer Madhava Babu was supervising the works.
