Houses for poor distributed
Anantapur: MLA Prabhakar Choudhury, District Collector Veera Pandian and Mayor Swaroopa participated in the house warming ceremony at Rajiv Colony here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector lauded the MLA Prabhakar Choudhury for building excellent houses to the homeless people living in makeshift plastic roof houses for decades.
He said that 25,000 houses had been built under the NTR Housing programme. As many as 46 houses have been built at a cost of Rs 69 lakh. The MLA revealed that 1.12 lakh houses were sanctioned for the entire district, out of which 42,000 houses were completed and 79,000 houses are in various stages of completion. People living in Marati Colony were living in makeshift tents exposed to sun and rain.
He said he was moved at their plight during his visit to their colony. With the help of RDT, beautiful houses have been built under the NTR Housing scheme. City Mayor Swaroopa hailed MLA Prabhakar as a man of the masses and one who responded to the plight of the poor.
