Vijayawada: Congress leader Dr Gangadhar blamed Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for the irregularities in the ongoing MBBS counselling.

He demanded that the government immediately file an affidavit and vacate the stay on GO No 550.

Participating in a round-table, organised by leaders of opposition parties and student unions at Andhra Ratna Bhavan here on Friday, Dr Gangadhar said that about 500 students belonging to SC, ST and BC community had lost the opportunity to pursue MBBS course.

He said that these type of irregularities had become a habit to the ruling TDP government.

He said that according to GO 550, any SC, ST and BC student who gets seat in open category and later opts for sliding, that seat should be filled with the same community student.

He said in August 2017, an interim stay order was granted by the AP High Court asking the government to file an affidavit by September 2017.

Till now, the government intentionally did not file an affidavit to vacate the stay resulting in loss of seats by poor SC, ST and BC students. He blamed the government for corruption through sale of MBBS seats.

He demanded that the government cancel the counselling procedure and conduct the counselling afresh as per the GO 550. He wanted the government to fill the open category seats and later fill the reservation seats as per the GO, he added.

Opposition leaders and student leaders participated in the round-table.
