Dumpagadapa Villagers storm MRO office for drinking water
Akiveedu: Villagers of Dumpagadapa laid seize to MRO office here on Friday, demanding that the authorities provide drinking water to their village.
The protesters questioned the authorities, as to why they had allowed sewage from Santinagar to enter Venkayya Vayyeru which supplies drinking water to the village tank.
They alleged that Akiveedu Panchayat officials had allowed construction of houses in Santinagar without providing drainage facility. The drinking water from Venkayya Vayyeru reaches Dumpagadapa village tank via irrigation canal.
As there was no drainage facility, the entire sewage from Santinagar was flooding the canal. As a result, diarrhea and other diseases were spreading in the village, they elaborated.
The villagers also brought to the notice of MRO that aqua ponds were also linked to the canal causing more pollution in their village tank.
When the agitators squatted at the office, officials of Rural Water Supply, Irrigation and Fisheries departments rushed to the MRO office and contacted higher authorities about the problem.
Village Sarpanch K Ramakrishna, village elders P Srinivasa Raju, K Anjaneyulu and others took part in the protest.
