Steps to make Vijayawada a beggar-free city
Vijayawada: To transform Vijayawada city into a beggar-free city, Municipal Commissioner J Nivas has taken initiative to shift beggars, mentally ill and homeless to the Amma Nanna Orphanage.
In this regard, the Commissioner contacted the management of Amma Nanna Orphanage at Choutuppal in Telangana State in this regard. The management of the orphanage responded positively to extend their cooperation.
A team of 10 persons of Amma Nanna Orphanage reached Vijayawada on Friday and started picking up beggars, mentally ill and homeless, orphans and shelter-less people from bus stations, railway stations, Eluru Road, BRTS Road, New Government Hospital, highway and other places and shifted them to Navjeevan Balabhavan in their vehicle.
The Commissioner said that they would gather about 100 people and then shift them to the orphanage at Choutuppal in Telangana State. He also said that the gathered homeless will be given food, shelter and medical treatment.
Gattu Giri, president of Amma Nanna Orphanage, said that about 350 homeless people were brought from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and were treated for three months at their orphanage. He said that they had contributed to transform Hyderabad into a beggar-free city. The orphanage was established in 2010, he added.
