Minister launches Anna Canteen at Anakapalle
Visakhapatnam: Minister for Roads and Building Ch Ayyanna Patrudu launched the trail run of Anna Canteen at Anakapalle on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the TDP government introduced the canteens with an aim to offer food at a cheaper price to the daily wage workers and the poor.
Government Whip PGVR Naidu also launched the Anna Canteen at 49th ward near Sriharipuram in the city and food was offered free of cost to the poor. It may be recalled that the government had sanctioned Rs 36 lakhs for each Anna Canteen and Rs 9.70 lakhs for the construction of each canteen. Tata Consultancy is supervising the construction of Anna Canteens and they would be set up in 750 square feet.
The canteens would be operated by Akshaya Patra Foundation. While some of the Anna Canteens, which were proposed, are running behind schedule due to apathy of ground-level officials and contract agencies, according to sources.
The GVMC officials managed to complete the works at a brisk phase at some places like Sriharipuram in front of Government Hospital, Chittivalasa, Bheemili, Anakapalle near NTR Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Colony near VIMS, Visakha Regional Eye Hospital, Marripalem and in Pendurthy.
