Visakhapatnam: With water sports drawing huge crowds to Rushikonda, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department Corporation (APTDC) is planning to introduce 10-member capacity seated speed boats in the coming days.

The speed boat concept, which was reintroduced in 2016, was a great success and received overwhelming response from tourists. According to sources, the APTDC is waiting for a nod from Visakha Port officials to introduce 10-seater capacity water boats and develop a Jetty for water sport at Rushikonda with the support of Kakinada port.

APTDC was operating services with four speed boats and two scooter boats for the tourists and charging Rs 250 per voyage for a group of three-four members by providing life jackets during the trip.

A Niranjan Mehtha from Kharagpur, who came to city along with his family, said that the cruise on speed boat for a short time in the blue waters in the city is quite refreshing and memorable.

The government should encourage more water sports on beaches and introduce 10-seater speed boats to have a cruise along with family at once, he said.
