Adopt people-friendly policy: V-P to cops

Vijayawada: Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu called upon the police personnel to adopt people-friendly policy and get closer to the common people. 

He took part in inaugural function of police station at Atkuru village in Unguturu mandal on Monday. Vijayawada Police Commissioner D Gautam Sawang inaugurated the police station, which will cover six villages in Ungutur mandal and six villages of Gannavaram mandal.

The State cabinet okayed the proposal for setting up new police station at Atkur about six months ago to maintain law and order in some politically sensitive villages located in Gannavaram and Unguturu mandals.

Venkaiah Naidu visited the police station and congratulated the police on the occasion. He said the police station was located very near to the national highway and it will be very useful to the people. He put a signature in visitors’ book and appealed to the people to respect the laws.

The government has sanctioned land and Rs 1.5 crore for construction of the police station. Initially, three rooms were built and staff headed by Sub-inspector of Police, head constables and constable appointed at the new station. 

Later, full-fledged police station will be built at the same venue and more staff will be appointed. Villagers of Veerapanenigudem, Metlapalli, Chinavutupalli, Balliparru and others can avail the services of Atkuru police station. 

The police also can keep vigil on the national highway since it is located very near to it. Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Sports Minister Kollu Ravindra, police officials and local villagers were present on the occasion.
