District batminton championship selections begin

Tanuku: The three-day selections for district badminton championship under the supervision of West Godavari District Badminton Association began on a grand note at indoor stadium here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the association president, Ch Subba Rao said that sports would help for sound health and mental condition. He informed that in memory of sister K Sarojini Devi, they had been sponsoring the championship. He thanked sports persons who came from different parts of the district.

District Sports Development Officer S V Azeez said that the Tanuku indoor stadium was helping sports talent from rural areas to participate in championships which were restricted to urban localities so far. 

The purpose of the stadium was fulfilled because of presence of rural sports persons in the championship. He patted the organisers for good maintenance of the stadium.

The association secretary, VV Somaraju who is monitoring the selections said that Tanuku had become an alternative place for badminton after Eluru which had been centre stage for the sport.

He congratulated Ch Subba Rao for extending his help to hold the selections at Tanuku.
