Somireddy lauds Nellore farmers

Nellore: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said the farmers of Nellore district created a record by producing 8.6 putti of paddy per hectare land. He addressed at Polam Pilustondi programme in Akkampet of Manubolu mandal on Tuesday and said the Chief Minister Chandrababu also appreciated their efforts asking others in the state to follow Nellore farmers.   

Farmers in Egypt were achieving 8.9 Putti of paddy per hectare and Nellore farmers also reached nearly to the same success which others should take them as role model, he said. He appealed to the farmers to utilise support from the state government and achieve good produce in future too.

He also praised them for utilising micro nutrients for the crops in an appreciable way. The Minister reiterated that the state government is focusing on welfare of farming sector support the farmers in a big way allocating huge funds.

He said they would give reasonable MSP even though the Centre fails to come forward to support issues of farmers. The state government pays Rs. 2,500 additionally per tonne for Totapuri mango wherever farmers produce them. He distributed soil health cards to the farmers during the programme.

The state government had released Rs. 10.30 crore for Bandepalli-Degapudi canal and the land acquisition would be completed shortly. They had sent proposals for expansion of Kanupur canal at Amancharla with Rs. 15 crore, the minister said. Sarpanch of Akkampet Kirankumar Reddy, Joint Director of Agriculture Department Chandranaik, and others were present.
