Truck hijackers gang held

Nellore: Chillakur Police apprehended four persons who robbed boxes containing chemicals from a truck on June 12. Police recovered a mini truck, a car, 115 chemical boxes and three mobile phones all worth Rs 38 lakh from them. The accused were identified as A Gunasekharan, L Dileep, G Murali, and Srinivasan Kumar.

Gudur DSP V S Rambabu disclosed the details at Chillakur Police Station in the district on Tuesday. K Polaiah, working as a driver in a pharmaceutical company, was carrying chemical boxes from Chennai harbour which were imported from China on the day.

“When the truck from Chennai harbour reached Boodanam toll plaza, some unidentified persons stopped the truck and attacked the driver and looted 115 boxes from the truck. Assailants left the truck and the driver at Annamedu Cross Road on Kota-Vakadu Road. Then the driver lodged a complaint with Chillakur Police,’ said Gudur DSP.

Chillakur SI and Gudur Rural Circle Inspector conducted regular checks on the National Highway at Boodanam toll plaza. The accused were on their way to Chennai on Audi car along with a mini truck. When the accused tried to escape by taking U-turn, the police  chased the vehicles and arrested them, said the DSP.
