Opening of Anna Canteen put off in Chittoor district

Chittoor: In a major embarrassment to the ruling government, inauguration of Anna Canteen was postponed in the native district of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday as the construction of building not yet completed. Industries Minister N Amaranatha Reddy has reportedly expressed anguish and dismay over non-construction of Anna Canteen building.

The district administration gave wide publicity that Anna Canteen coming up on the premises of the Government ITI would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister through remote from Amaravati.

It is learnt that the contractor had failed to complete the construction of Anna Canteen by Tuesday due to various reasons. On Tuesday evening, District Collector P S Pradyumna, city MLA D A Satyaprabha and Mayor K Hemalatha have inspected the incomplete Anna Canteen building and decided to postpone the inauguration on Wednesday. 

Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, Chittoor Municipal Commissioner P Obulesh has admitted that the inauguration of Anna Canteen was postponed with the instructions of the District Collector as the building was incomplete.

He stated the government had sanctioned Rs 35 lakh towards the construction of the building. The district administration proposed to open three Anna Canteens in Chittoor city. “We have made hectic efforts to complete the construction of at least one Anna Canteen building before the scheduled date of inauguration,” he said. 

The civic official exuded confidence that the inauguration of Anna Canteen would take place on or before July 20. He mentioned Amaranatha Reddy would launch the first Anna Canteen in Chittoor.
