Sport Cities to come up in Vizag, Amaravati, Tirupati
Visakhapatnam: Minister for Sports and Games Kollu Ravindra, along with Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao, inaugurated the indoor sports complex at Kommadi here on Wednesday. In order to provide sports infrastructure to the rural youth, the government sanctioning mini-stadia and as part of the programme, the state government constructed the complex at a cost of Rs 2.40 crore in five acres of land.
Speaking on the occasion, Kollu Ravindra said that the state government is giving equal priority to the sports and games on par with the education. The government already started ‘Gandeeva’ project to bring the talented sports personnel from rural areas.
During the first phase, from each village 100 persons would be selected to provide special training in various games and sports. The government is planning to construct one mini-stadium in each Assembly constituency and sports cities would be coming up in Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati, the minister said.
Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that though the state government is facing financial crisis, the Chief Minister allocated Rs 300 crore for the development of sports and games in the state. He said that in the first phase training would be given in hockey, football and cycling at the Kommadi Stadium, he added. Special Chief Secretary, Sports and Games LV Subrahmanyam and Collector Pravin Kumar also spoke.
