Centre: AP holds responsibility to decide the location of High Court

Update: 2018-07-13 19:39 IST

The Union Law Ministry informed the Supreme Court that the Centre is prepared to notify the principal seat of Andhra Pradesh High Court at a location suggested by the AP and Hyderabad High Court, thus ending the speculation of the BJP-led NDA government creating hurdles in the establishment of the AP HC in Amaravati.

While the HC was decided to be set up at Amaravati, the TDP government has assigned the task to L&T to erect a temporary structure which is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Under-secretary, Department of Justice, Law Ministry, NKC Thang in his affidavit said that the AP and Hyderabad HC hold the responsibility to decide the location of the AP HC adding that the Centre will take further action to issue the necessary notification once AP intimates its accessibility in this regard.

The Ministry also clarified that the Centre cannot decide the location unilaterally as it is primarily the job of the state and Hyderabad HC.
