Vijayawada: The state government finalised the plan to expand Christurajapuram-Eluru Road soon. The officials of local body completed the road alignment markings two days ago in this regard.

MLA Gadde Rammohan also interacted with the residents and convinced them for the road expansion. The road would connect Bandar Road to Eluru Road besides provides way to airport.

The state government proposed to develop the road almost three years ago. The officials submitted plan to government to expand the road up to 120 ft. Now, the road width is 40 ft to 60 ft depending upon the locations.

As a part of the road expansion, several houses should be demolished on the both sides of the road, particularly on the hill side houses, which are encroached by residents. If the houses are demolished on the hill side, the owners may blame the government. The residents opposite hill side area constructed their structures according to the plan issued by the local body.

In fact, the government has to pay a huge compensation to owners of legally constructed houses. Hence, the local body officials neglected the road repairs. Currently, the road is damaged due to rains due to the negligence of officials concerned.

However, the government finalised the plan after discussing with residents, including hill area people. Majority people accepted the government plan and agreed to lose some part of their building for road expansion.

Bobba Srinivasa Rao, former corporator of the area, said the government should pay compensation and expand the road immediately. He said the road plays an important role to divert traffic from Bandar Road to Eluru Road and ease congestion.
