Call to plant more saplings to protect eco-balance

Kadapa: The state government’s prestigious 69th Vanam Manam programme has been started on grand note across the district. Officials, people’s representatives, students, representatives from NGOs voluntarily participated in the event. 

In Kadapa city, the Social Forestry department organised an event at Yogi Vemana University (YVU). On the occasion, the speakers in the meeting stressed the need of planting more saplings to protect the ecological balance. 

Presiding over the event, Collector Ch Hari Kiran said people should take it as a responsibility in the interest of maintaining ecological balance. 

Increasing life span of humans only possible by inhaling pure oxygen from trees, he said and expressed serious concern over indiscriminate axing of trees due to various reasons.

Stating 10 lakh saplings were planted across the district last year of which only 4 lakhs were survived, he said the district administration set a target of planting 30 crore saplings across the district. 

YVU V-C Ramachandra Reddy said the existence of human life would not be possible if the deforestation goes on continuously. 

He said planting more saplings would be the solution to rescue population from dangerous situation. Vanam Manam programme in-charge Saravanan and others were present.
