Plant saplings on all auspicious days
Srikakulam: Plant a tree on all auspicious days and it will help to increase green cover over a period and adopt it as a habit, appealed Minister for Transport K Atchannaidu, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Ch Dhanalakshmi, MLA G Lakshmidevi and Collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy.
They participated in Vanam-Manam programme at LBS Colony in Srikakulam city limits on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, they said that 33 per cent green cover should be maintained but in the state it is 26 per cent only.
In Srikakulam district, green cover is very poor i.e; 12.20 per cent. The state government fixed a target of green cover at 50 per cent by 2029 and everyone has to make efforts and adopt habit of planting saplings, they appealed.
In the district, 1.75 crore saplings are ready to plant this season, said district forest officer Ch Shanthi Swaroop.
In Srikakulam, green cover increased to 0.8 per cent last year and this year, the target was fixed at 15 per cent. On the occasion, Minister, Zilla Parishad Chairperson, MLA and Collector planted the saplings. District officials and students attended the programme.
