SCR launches UTS mobile app

  • The app facilitates passengers to book tickets on smart phone in advance without standing in long queues
  • Passengers could not buy tickets after boarding the train due to geo-fencing

Vijayawada: As part of increasing amenities to  commuters particularly to unreserved passengers, the South Central Railway launched UTS mobile app on Saturday. 

Launching the app at the DRM conference hall,  Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager R Dhananjayulu said smart phone users can download the app and can book season tickets and platform tickets. He said the tickets can be booked 15 metres away from railway tracks.

Pointing out that some ticketless travellers might purchase ticket on board after seeing the approaching traveling ticket examiner, he said geo-fencing has been made so that the passengers could not buy tickets after boarding the train. The objective of creating the app is to enable the passengers to buy tickets in advance without waiting in queue for tickets. 

Dhananjayulu said the booked ticket particulars would be saved in mobile and could be shown to traveling ticket examiner. Stating that the season tickets can be renewed 10 days in advance, he said the first time users have to sign up and existing users can log in directly using their password.

He said in railway stations like Vijayawada, sometimes the passengers have to wait for 15 minutes to buy tickets and added the tickets can be booked by using r-Wallet, PayTm, Mobikwik and Free charge.

Dhananjayulu felt the UTS app would be useful to train passengers of coastal districts. He informed the media that extensive study has been done in metros about the functioning and use of mobile app and precautions were taken to prevent its misuse.

He said registration can be done through mobile phone app or website (https://www.UTSonmobile.indianrail.gov.in . He said the railways is planning to transform into paperless technology and appealed passengers to make use of facilities extended by the department.
