Chandrababu Naidu to inaugurate Potharlanka LI Scheme
Guntur: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate Potharlanka Lift Irrigation Scheme on Monday taken up at a cost of Rs 50 crore at Donepudi village in Kollur mandal in Guntur district.
After launching the lift irrigation scheme, he will inaugurate Grama Darshini and interact with villagers in Donepudi. The government taken up Potharlaka Lift Irrigation Scheme to supply irrigation water to 12 island villages from Potharlanka to Bhattiprolu.
The irrigation department will lift the water at Donepudi from Krishna west bank canal with the help of motors. The scheme will provide irrigation water to 5,000 acres of land in Kollur, Bhattiprolu, Thokavanipalem, Tippalakatta, Kishkindapalem, Tadikalapudi, Juvvalapalem, Pesarlanka, Vellatur, Pedapulivarru and Oleru villages in the district.
The irrigation department laid 1,250 metres long pipeline on left side and 5,000 meters long pipeline on right side to avoid evaporation of water.
The government sanctioned Rs 8.46 crore funds and the Nabard sanctioned Rs 41.22 crore.
Ground water was depleting in the island villages in Guntur district as a result the farmers of these villages are facing water problem to cultivate lands. Due to lack of sufficient water, the farmers are not getting proper yield.
CPM leader Koratala Satyana launched agitation for Potharlanka Lift Irrigation and took up with the then Chief Minister NT Rama Rao had sanctioned Rs 2.64 crore for the scheme in 1998.
In the last elections, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited the island villages and the farmers requested him to take up the scheme to solve irrigation water problem.
Naidu agreed to take up the scheme. Following the initiatives taken by minister Nakka Anand Babu, Naidu sanctioned Rs 49.68 crore. Speaking to the media, Minister for Social Welfare Nakka Anand Babu said, “Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu fulfilled his promise and completed Potharlanka Lift Irrigation Scheme which provides irrigation water to 12 island villages.”
He thanked Naidu for sanctioning the scheme and releasing funds and said four decades dream of farmers will be realised with the opening of project on Monday.
