Tadepalligudem: Former minister and BJP MLA P Manikyala Rao on Sunday came down heavily on the authorities for the plight of roads in the town.

Participating in Swachh Bharat programme here, he blamed the officials for lack of action plan to save main roads from inundation due to rains.

A few traders had blocked the drains leading to rain water overflowing on roads. The want of drainage was causing loss to the tune of several lakhs of rupees.

He participated in Swachh Bharat at Maganti Annapurna Devi Municipal Oriental High School and removed garbage and cleaned drains. He along with others cleaned drains to ensure free flow of rain water.

He inspected the main road marooned because of heavy rain. He directed municipal officials to act tough against traders and encroachers of the drains for blocking the drains.

He summoned the sanitation staff and cleared vegetation and other hurdles in the main drain.

He also alerted electricity department officials to take proper measures to replace supply cable whose insulation was dangerously damaged.

The underground cable laid at road divider to supply electricity to streetlights was exposed to road users because of the rains.
