Heavy rain to lash five north coastal districts today

Hyderabad: Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East & West Godavari districts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 17, the Met department bulletin stated on Monday. 

This is due to the well-marked low pressure area over coastal Odisha and its neighbourhood. The bulletin said on Monday that a low pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around July 19.

The Southwest Monsoon was active in coastal Andhra and weak in Rayalaseema. Heavy rain occurred at isolated places in East and West Godavari districts, with Vararamachandrapur in East Godavari recording 9 cm of rainfall. 

The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) in the state were: Koida (WG), Chintur (EG), Velairpad (WG) 8 cm each, Polavaram (WG), Peddapuram (EG) 7 each, Tuni (EG) 6, Kukunoor, Koyyalagudem (both in WG), Chintapalle (Visakhapatnam) 5 each, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Dowleshwaram (all in  EG) 4 each.

There was  3 cm of rain each in Narsipatnam (Visakhapatnam), Kunavaram (EG), Ichchapuram, Sompeta (both in Srikakulam), Amalapuram, Prathipadu (both in EG).  Two cm rain  was recorded in Tadepalligudem, Maruteru, Chintalapudi (all in WG). One cm of rain each occurred in Kurupam, Salur, Parvathipuram, Mandasa, Bhimadole, Narsapuram, Paderu, Gudivada, Komarada, Palakoderu, Araku Valley, Nuzvid, Nandigama, Bheemavaram, Yelamanchili and Gantyada.
