Man attempts suicide at Collector’s office

Kurnool: A 27-year-old man tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide at the weekly grievance cell meeting being organised at Collector’s office here on Monday. He was rushed to the Government General Hospital here and the condition of the victim is said to be stable.

The victim is identified as Prakash, a resident of Budwarpeta. RG Subramanyam, CI of Three Town police station, said that Prakash is mason and was in love with a girl Chandrika of same locality. The girl is working as a nurse in a private hospital.

On June 20, both eloped from the village and got married. The girl’s parents approached the police on the next day and filed a complaint. “Based on the complaint, we have registered a case of woman missing and took up investigation. But, both returned to their houses on July 8,” the CI said.

The police official further said Prakash and Chandrika came to police station and sought protection. Meanwhile, Chandrika’s parents also approached the CI and requested him to permit their daughter to stay with them for a week.

Even, Prakash also agreed for the request of girl’s parents. Chandrika after going to her parents’ house did not return even after a week. Prakash submitted a complaint at the grievance cell. After that, he consumed pesticide-laced drink brought with him in the premises of the Collectorate and fell unconscious. He was rushed to hospital for treatment. “We have filed a case and took up investigation,” the CI added.
