RTI Act brings transparency in govt: AJC Markandeyulu

Ongole: In the republic democracy of India, the public should be knowledgeable and the information should be transparent to help the democracy work perfectly, control the corruption and bring responsibility in the government and its pillars, said the Additional Joint Collector D Markandeyulu.

He participated in the awareness programme on Right to Information Act and a signature campaign to save RTI Act held by the Prakasam district unit of Society for Fast Justice and Ambedkar People’s JAC at the district collectorate on Monday.

Markandeyulu said the Right to Information Act is aimed to bring transparency and responsibility in the government system and provide information in the vaults of officials to the public and give a power to the public to ask information and other related issues. He appreciated the Society for Fast Justice and Ambedkar People’s JAC for organizing such awareness programme on RTI Act.

M Kishore Kumar, president of the Prakasam district unit of Society for Fast Justice said that they are organizing numerous awareness camps on the RTI and other important acts in the villages since 2016. He demanded that the government extend its full support to the judiciary system to deliver fast justice. He said that though the the RTI Act was introduced 13 years ago, the public and officials lacks awareness on the act.

Ambedkar People’s JAC secretary Benjamin said that nearly 70 percent of the Constitution written by Dr Ambedkar is not being implemented in the country. He said that the country is in 94th position in corruption by official system, 140th position in restricting media, 2nd position in girls trafficking and in first place in the hazardous countries list for women. He welcomed youth to fight against corruption and advised them to use RTI Act as a weapon for it.
