160 additional classrooms in civic schools: Minister

Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said that they would construct 160 additional classrooms in municipal schools located in district headquarters. He paid a surprise visit to the municipal schools in the city on Tuesday and inspected them.

Local authorities and teachers brought to his notice some schools are facing shortage of classrooms and some other schools having difficulty for providing accommodation to students. He interacted with the students at Mittapalem and Vaddipalem and also at Balijapalem municipal schools.

Speaking to the media, Municipal Minister informed that the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is constructing 60 additional classrooms with Rs 6 crore. Another 30 classrooms are being constructed with Rs 3 crore from the funds accumulated through CSR activity of Krishnapatnam port and others.

Other rooms will be constructed by the special development funds of Municipal Administration department, said the Minister. Toilets were constructed in schools by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation on pilot basis, Narayana said and explained that they would construct toilets in all municipal schools across the state within four to six months.

He mentioned that officials and TDP leaders would visit the municipal, government and ZP schools as part of the Nagar Darshini and identify the issues. After observing the conditions authorities would focus on them for quick resolution within short period. Minister informed that additional buildings would be constructed in Mutyalapalem, Vaddipalem and Balijapalem and also at ESRM schools on war foot basis.

Maintenance of toilets and buildings will be handed over to local Municipal Commissioners and the members of the school committees have to resolve minor issues, said the Minister.

He appealed to the private organisations to adopt the maintenance of toilets and also buildings of the government schools in Nellore and also across the state. City Mayor Sk Abdul Aziz, former MLA M Sridhara Krishna Reddy and others were present.
