ACB focussing on DA cases: DGP

Vijayawada: Anti-Corruption Bureau department is mainly focusing on the disproportionate cases, said DGP R P Thakur, who is also holding the post of DG of Anti corruption Bureau. Thakur has been elevated to the post of DGP on June 30, 2018.

He said the Anti-Corruption Bureau is giving priority to complete the registered DA and other cases during the last few years.   Addressing a media conference at the main conference hall of the RTC Bhavan here on Tuesday, Thakur said special courts are authorised to hand over the properties of convicted in DA cases to the government. 

He estimated that the government could get properties worth Rs 1,000 crore if the accused in more than 100 DA cases are convicted. He said if any accused is acquitted in a DA case, he may get his property. Referring to special courts, he said one court has already started functioning in Vizag and four special courts would come up in Vijayawada, Rajamahendravaram, Kurnool and Nellore.

As per the AP Special Courts Act of 2016, the properties of the accused should be confiscated in six months and the trial should be completed in one year. He said the ACB is specially focusing on the registered DA cases because they should be completed within one year. He said special officers were appointed to speed up the trial.

Referring to the ACB cases this year, he said 63 trap cases, 13 DA cases, eight misconduct cases and 15 surprise checks cases were registered till July 16, 2018 in the State since January. Giving details of previous years, he said a total of 236 cases were booked in 2016 and 242 cases in 2017.

He said the trial began in Special Court, Vizag related to ACB case, in which Gedela Lakshmi Ganeswara Rao, inspector, office of the assistant director, survey land records, Vizianagaram, was the accused. He said the accused had properties worth Rs 8,03,41,202, which was 554 per cent of his income. 

Giving details of new office buildings, Thakur said three new buildings were inaugurated in Tirupati, Vizag and Eluru and another 10 new buildings will be inaugurated this year.
