Dispute over crematorium deepens

Akiveedu: A dispute over ownership of crematorium snowballed into a major controversy when a section of Hindu community people attempted to perform last rites of their member at Kailasanilayam here on Tuesday. Police rushed to the spot to avoid tension.

According to the police, Lion’s Club built Kailasanilayam in five cents of land to perform rituals linked to last rites a few months ago.

Since then, a particular caste objected to the structure stating that they owned the land. After probe into the construction, the district Collector confirmed that the structure was built for service activity and allotted five cents of the land for service activities.

However, the opponents of the Kailasanilayam had alleged again that five more cents of land was ‘encroached’ to accommodate a shed and garden.

While the dispute on land ownership continues, the opponents tried to bury the dead person of their community in the ‘encroached’ land as the 90 cents of the remaining crematorium was wet due to rains. When their attempt was thwarted by others, a mild tension prevailed.

The police had to enter and pacify the two warring groups. The cops assured that proper action would be taken once the inquiry into the controversy over Kailasanilayam by Veeravasaram MRO comes to a close.
