Essay contest to mark I-Day on Aug 5
Vijayawada: To mark the 72nd Independence Day celebration, an essay-writing competition will be organised on ‘Role of Sikhs in Indian Freedom Struggle’.
The competition will be jointly organised by Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Vijayawada in collaboration with the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA) and the Andhra Arts Academy, according to CCVA CEO Dr E Sivanagi Reddy here on Tuesday.
Addressing the media, he said that the competition would be held in two categories. Category 1 for school students from Class VIII to X, and Category 2 for Intermediate, degree and other under graduate students, said Reddy.
It will be held at Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Guru Nanak Colony, Vijayawada on August 5. The prize distribution will be held on August 12 at the same place.
Reddy informed that for Category 1, the essay should be below 500 words and for Category 2, it was 1200 words.
For category 1, cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2000 would be given for first, second and third prize winners. Similarly, for Category 2, cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000 would be given.
He said that consolation cash prizes would also be distributed in both the categories.
