Congress will regain power at Centre: Oommen Chandy

Update: 2018-07-19 05:30 IST

Visakhapatnam: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced that the Congress party will regain power in Andhra Pradesh as BJP-led NDA failed to fulfil the promises made to AP people during bifurcation of the state.

Oommen Chandy conducted a review meeting with local cadre regarding party position in all the Assembly constituencies in the district along with PCC Chief N Raghuveera Reddy here on Wednesday at the Circuit house.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Congress party will regain power in AP in the ensuing elections as BJP failed on all fronts. Though the BJP did nothing to the state, he said it has been claiming credit for all development in the state and says it had honoured all promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

Chandy said former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced Special Category Status to AP in parliament but the NDA government failed to honour it. He announced the Congress party would honour the promise if it comes to power in the ensuing elections and sanction railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.

Later Chandy flagged off a bike rally conducted by the Congress followers and announced that they were planning to reorganise the cadre from village, mandal and district level by October 2 to strengthen the party.
