Call by JR Pushpa Raj to create market to Handlooms
Guntur: Food Commission chairman JR Pushpa Raj has said there is need to provide market facility to the handlooms.
He inaugurated National Handlooms Expo set up at KKR Function Plaza in Guntur city on Thursday.
Speaking on this occasion, he said that weavers from five states have set up stalls in the handlooms expo and urged the people to purchase handlooms and encourage the weavers.
He said handlooms were facing competition from machine made cloth. In spite of it, Mangalagiri ,Chirala, Dharmavaram and Pochampalli saris earned fame.
Due to quality and durability, the consumers had been purchasing the handlooms. He said that there was need to promote handlooms.
Zilla Parishad chairperson Md Janimun said that it was responsibility of the Centre to extend helping hand to the weavers and take steps to improve standard of living of the weavers.
In spite of crisis, weavers were producing quality handlooms. She urged the people to purchase handlooms and extend helping hand to the weavers.
It may be mentioned that the National Handlooms Expo will continue till August 3 at KKR Plaza in Guntur city.
