Ongole: Mala Mahanadu and other Dalit organisations, demanded that the Central government amend the Constitution and include the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 in the Schedule 9, in the monsoon session of Parliament.

The workers of these organisations held a Rasta Roko and burned the effigy of headless Central government.

Billa Vasantha Rao, Mala Mahanadu state president said that a few forces in the country were trying to weaken the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which is the sole protector of the Dalits and Tribals in the country and their rights.

He said that it was the responsibility of every Dalit and Tribal to see the act is safeguarded and demand the Central government to include the Act in Schedule 9 of the Constitution so that the courts will never interfere again.

He wanted the members of Parliament and other members of the constitutional houses, who utilized the reservations to raise their voice against the Union government and demand it to amend the Constitution and include it in the schedule 9.
