Heavy rain forecast for state from July 21 to 24

Hyderabad: In a warning to Andhra Pradesh, the Met department said on Friday that heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places on July 21 in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East & West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts.

The bulletin said the low-pressure area over central parts of north MP and its adjoining UP has become less marked and the associated upper air cyclonic circulation has merged with monsoon trough. 

Thursday’s low-pressure area has become well marked and lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and Odisha coast. It is associated with upper air cyclonic circulation and likely to concentrate into a depression during next 48 hours. 

According to the bulletin, the Southwest Monsoon has turned active in coastal districts. It is weak in Rayalaseema. Rain occurred at many places in coastal Andhra and at isolated places in Rayalaseema. There was heavy rain at isolated places in Visakhapatnam district.  

The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) in the state were: Paderu (Visakhapatnam) 11, Kukunoor, Velairpad (both in West Godavari), Chintur (EG) 5 each, Palasa, Mandasa, Ichchapuram (all in Srikakulam) 4 each. There was 3 cm of rain each in Chodavaram (Vishakhapatnam), Tekkali, Sompeta (both in Srikakulam), Anakapalle (Vishakhapatnam), Tuni (EG), Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam Airport, Polavaram (WG), Palasamudram (Chittoor).

According to the forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few/isolated/many places in coastal and Rayalaseema districts from July 21 to 24.
