Eluru: The Andhra Pradesh Rytu Sangham demanded that the government extend benefits under crop insurance scheme to all farmers cultivating different crops.

A meeting of district unit functionaries was held here on Sunday. In the meeting the governmentwas asked to correct the lapses in the scheme and ensure all farmers would get benefits.

District president of the sangham G Venkata Krishna Rao presided over the meeting. Addressing the leaders, the sangham upland district secretary, Srinivasa Rao flayed the government for ‘looting’ crores of rupees worth premium from the farmers covered under the scheme.

Even though the government was giving wide publicity for the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, when it comes to implementation the farmers were being neglected. The scheme was raising many questions. In spite of the clause that the scheme covers crops under any stage, in practice it was not the case.

If the scheme was foolproof, why did the government fail to compensate for the damage done to the crops during recent rains, he questioned.

Stating that the insurance premium was a burden to poor and tenant farmers, the meeting demanded that the government should pay the premium. The meeting resolved to organise Chalo Collectorate on August 9.
