Offering money to kidneys, quack cheats people
Visakhapatnam: A group of people, including some women, lodged a complaint against a fake doctor and a woman, who cheated them assuring to buy their kidneys. The police received the complaint and started investigation.
One Karthik alias Shankar, a resident of PM Palem posed himself as a Nephrologist and colluded with a woman Lakshmi of Gajuwaka. He used to propagate that he wants kidneys for his patients for which he would pay Rs 20 to 30 lakh depending on the blood group.
Lakshmi identified some of the people belonging to weaker sections who have been facing financial problems and asked them to donate one kidney to the needy patient. Believing, Lakshmi, they approached the fake doctor Shankar and accepted to donate one of their kidneys.
Later, Shankar demanded for Rs.50,000 for various medical examinations and medicines from them. He also arranged the money of Rs.50,000 as loan on interest who failed to pay.
Later, all they underwent various medical examinations in the city and they have taken some medicines for 21-days. But, even after two months, both the accused have not invited the persons for surgery. Meanwhile the victims have faced some health problems after the 21-days medication. The victims approached the PM Police with the help of Mahila Chethana, a women welfare organisation.
On the issue, Mahila Chethana president Katti Padma said after the three-week medication, the victims are facing several health problems and met her for seeking justice. Victims including K.Kanakamahalakshmi D. Srinivas, P.Mary, Ch.Padma, K.Geetha Devi and K.Nagamani lodged the complaint.
Inspector of Police PM Palem Lakshmanamurthy said that they have received the complaint and started investigation. After the inquiry a case would be registered, he said.
