Seasonal diseases on the rise

Vizianagaram: People of Vizianagaram district are being affected with several seasonal diseases like viral fevers, typhoid, cholera and dengue as the water tanks and wells are being contaminated due to recent rains and the villagers are directly consuming the same contaminated water without boiling and chlorination. 

The negligence in following proper hygienic measures is leading them to hospitals and forcing them to cough up huge money on medicines. Even the civic authorities are also failed to supply protected drinking water. The people of Parvathipuram town were shocked to see the red colored water coming from civic taps. 

The municipality, which is getting water from Thotapalli reservoir and supplying it to public but with the recent rains, the water was contaminated, and the authorities have been directly supplying it to public without proper purification and chlorination.

K Swathi, resident of Parvathipuram told that they are not able to consume red colored water and purchasing mineral water from market by paying Rs 30 per 20 litres. “We are not in a position to use the water fearing of infections and waterborne diseases,” she said. 

Recently a girl was died in Pakki village of Balijipeta mandal with cholera. On Sunday, K Sravani, a seven-year-old girl of Polipalli village in Bhogapuram mandal died due to dengue. The people in these villagers are forced to consume the contaminated water as they have no other source of water. The residents of Kurupam, Garugubilli, Komarada and G L Puram mandals are approaching private medical practitioners for first aid and if the situation won’t come under control, they are rushing to nearby towns like Parvathipuram, Bobbili and Vizianagaram to consult qualified doctors.  

Dr S Nagabhusnaham, Superintendent of Parvathipuram area hospital told “The number of cases suffering from various fevers is raising in the past two weeks as the rainy season started. 

The people should note that the water should not be consumed directly, and they should boil it before consuming. We should be cautious on their health.”  K Srinivasa Rao, Municipal commissioner of Parvathipuram, said “There might be some leakages in water pipes and we will rectify them soon. We are taking all measures to protect public health and deploying staff for chlorination and for cleaning roads and colonies to eradicate mosquito problem.
