Kumble unveils CK Nayudu statue

Vijayawada: Former Cricket Captain Anil Kumble participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony of Missoula Sports Complex, Athletic Stadium building at Challapalli bypass road in the Port Town of Machilipatnam on Tuesday. 

Sports and Youth Services Minister Kollu Ravindra welcomed the cricket legend in a grand way. The minister, along with Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman Dr Ankamma Chowdary, participated in the foundation stone laying programme. The sports complex will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 13 crore.

Anil Kumble unveiled the statue of first cricket captain of Indian team CK Nayudu at the Zilla Parishad centre. Anil Kumble was the second Indian cricketer after CK Nayudu to visit Machilipatnam. 

Speaking on the occasion, Anil Kumble said that it was a great honour to unveil the statue of cricket legend CK Naidu who served as chief selector of Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI). Kumble said Nayudu had scored 11,825 runs in 205 first class cricket matches with 26 centuries and 411 wickets and 170 catches.

Nayudu had played seven test matches and scored double century in Ranji match at the age of 52, said Kumble.Kumble was felicitated by Minister Kollu Ravindra on the occasion. MLC Bachula Arjunudu, Superintendant of Police Sarvashresth Tripathi, municipal chairman Baba Prasad and other dignitaries participated in the programme.
