Bishop G Prasad prevented from performing mass
Kadapa: Tension prevailed for some time at St Mary’s Cathedral Church in Mariyapuram here on Wednesday as the congregation has prevented Bishop G Prasad from performing early morning ‘mass’ alleging he has destroyed the sanctity of Christianity by marrying as against the rule of roman catholic priest should remain single.
This led to the war of words between devotees and bishop. To maintain the law and order, the police intervened and sent away devotees from the premises of the church. Even, bishop too left without performing the mass.
The police personnel were posted near the church and diverted the traffic. According to sources, the trouble started after Father Prasad was appointed as fourth bishop of St Mary’s Cathedral Church by Pope Benedict XVI on January 31, 2018.
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, church members Pradeep and Antony alleged that Bishop G Prasad was married and has a son. They accused Prasad of harassing women sexually, who came for prayers and other spiritual needs.
The members said they tried to bring to the notice of higher officials in Rome and Hyderabad as well but failed due to various reasons. As a last resort, we filed a case against bishop in the II Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court in Proddatur on June 4, 2018, they informed. When Hans India tried to contact bishop, his staff denied permission to meet or talk to him.
