Fly by air chance improves SSC results in govt schools

Tirupati: Though not a government scheme, with the initiative of Pratap Reddy, Regional Joint Director (RJD) of the Education department, 10th class students, who secured 10/10 GPA in SSC examination this year are getting an opportunity to fly by air.

Already 40 students out of which 27 from Chittoor district were taken to Vijayawada by flight from Kadapa last week. The remaining 13 were from Kadapa. This year 285 students scored 10/10 while it was 71 only last year.

This novel idea was to motivate SSC students to work hard and to get a chance of travelling by air which will be a distant dream for most of the them studying in government, aided and municipal schools.

Basically, the idea was to increase the pass percentage of students in government schools which has witnessed a poor pass percentage for the last three consecutive years by standing at the bottom of the table embarrassing the officials of Education department in CM’s home turf.

Among other steps, they tried to woo the students of government schools, who are mostly from lower middle class and middleclass sections. They laid special focus by identifying the bright students among them in all aspects that they should secure 10 grade points for whom the chance of making a flight journey will work as a booster to put some extra efforts which yielded positive results too with 96.36 pass percentage in April 2018.

The district secured fifth place ending three year’s poor performance and made the officials to look to the top spot now. They have designed two types of study material named as Mahasankalpam and Vijayosthu for bright students and weak students respectively.

While the focus was to make bright students aim for 10 grade points, weak students were targeted so that at least they pass the examinations by concentrating on important areas.

“We have put special focus on 1,600 students, who were showing good performance based on assessment and with the all-round efforts of teachers, parents and students the district recorded 10/10 from 285 candidates in government schools only. We left no stone unturned in getting good pass percentage and it was resulted in producing more bright students.

The fact is that 468 students studied in government schools have been selected for admission into various IIITs this year shows the real potential of the students,” asserted the District Educational Officer Dr K Panduranga Swamy. Speaking to The Hans India, he said, the air trip was aimed at motivating the students only and will be implemented with the help of donors.

Interested sponsors can come forward to book flight tickets for as many students as they wish so that more number of students can be taken to Amaravati in the coming days. In the first batch, some headmasters took initiative and found a few sponsors and others also will get a chance soon.

Each flight ticket was booked at Rs 1,200 from Kadapa to Vijayawada and the students have been taken to Kadapa from here and in the return direction they have been brought home by bus.

At Vijayawada, they were taken to the Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who appreciated them. They have also visited places like Amaravathi, Kanakadurga temple, Krishna river, Secretariat and other places there, the DEO said and opined that they will cherish these moments for ever.
