Pochampally IKAT Art Mela inaugurated
Vijayawada: For the handloom fashion lovers of Vijayawada city, Pochampally Handloom Park organised Pochampally IKAT Art Mela here on Wednesday.
The mela was inaugurated by upcoming Tollywood actress Priya Chowdary. The week-long expo of hand-woven eco-friendly handloom products opened at Sri Raghuraama Vedika, Patamata.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Priya Chowdary said that handlooms were part of age-old Indian tradition, culture and rich artistry.
By promoting handlooms, one can support the artisans and local community who have been passing their skills to the generations.
Pochampally Handloom Park director Lava Kumar said that the beauty of IKAT lies in the unpredictability of texture of the fabric, using the latest techniques.
“It is a textile technique in which patterns are achieved by tying and dying the yarn prior to weaving.
This unique process gives IKAT fabrics their distinct feathered identity, he added. People can throng the Expo till till 8.30 pm on July 31.
